Quotation of theweek Lubavitchers are one of the largest groups of ultra orthodox, or Hasidic, Jewish groups, and number about 100,000 worldwide. In 1940 the Lubavitchers purchased a small collegiate-gothic-style Brooklyn building (once a medical clinic) at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, for the sixth Rebbe, Yoseph Yitzchak Schneerson, who had recently immigrated to the United States to escape Nazi persecution. In 1951, a year after his passing, his sonin-law Menachem Mendel Schneerson officially accepted the title of the seventh Lubavitch Rebbe, and inherited a congregation decimated in numbers by the holocaust. The Rebbe established the tradition of Chabad centers, places of community and outreach, and the Shluchim, young families that go to distant parts of the world to set up and manage these centers. The Shluchim’s goal is to reach lapsed and secular Jews and spread the mitzvith, the 613 commandments of Jewish behavior. Because of the Rebbe’s charisma, energy and the devotion of his followers, the building in Brooklyn has become a kind of holy ground for Lubavitchers. It has been replicated worldwide, with varying degrees of precision, mostly as Chabad centers. The international franchising of this building serves three purposes: as theRebbe’s home, it is a familiar place for his return to earth since his passing in 1994; as the Lubavitch headquarters it is a well known landmark and meeting place for insular international travelers; and it is a sign of the importance placed by the Rebbe on his Shluchim. Currently there are twelve 770’s, including the original, in the United States, Canada, Israel, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia. A 13th is under construction in Cleveland, U.S.A and, rumor has it, another is being planned in Santiago, Chile. 7770 IsraPost Issue No

ו' תמוז התשע"א 7/8/2011 4 B&W - 4 Articles Issue 770 Dedicated to the memory of the souls of Mazal & Tzvi Amir, G-d bless their souls The Weekly Parasha By: Hammaayan Institutes Why did G-d inspire the evil, idolatrous Bal’am with the spirit of His Divine Presence and the power of prophecy? Chazal have answered that G-d did not want to allow idolatrous gentiles the opportunity to claim that, if they also had a prophet like Moshe, then they would have behaved ethically. Therefore, G-d gave them prophets as well, and Bal’am was the archetype. In this way, their potential claim would be tested and effectively neutralized. Like Bal’am, these prophets led the idolatrous gentiles away from G-d. Formerly, they were careful to avoid incest and adultery, and even guarded themselves against the opportunities, which might lead to transgression of these sins. However, Bal’am advised them to turn their daughters loose and to send them to prostitution. It is not surprising that western culture seems to be marked by an influence that works against the values and integrity of the family. The evil Bal’am already infused the poison into the cradle of western culture. Nevertheless, it would seem that giving them prophets like Bal’am has not really neutralized the potential claim of the goyim. They could say that G-d gave them prophets who did not do their jobs, who did not abjure them and rebuke them to go in the way of truth and righteousness. If G-d had given them prophets who were better than Bal’am, prophets like Moshe, then they could claim that they would have behaved ethically. They had just heard the words of G-d. They had just heard, through the medium of true prophecy, that they themselves sought that a supernatural leader is leading Israel. They already knew from the time of the splitting of the sea: “The nobility of Edom were frightened, the mighty men of Moab were seized with fear...” (Exodus 15:15). That is why they sought for Bal’am, for some supernatural way to overcome the rising tide of Israel. But when the prophet that they sought explains to them that their quest is in vain, and anyone who oppose The moment that Bal’am finishes his prophecy not only those who heard him do not pay attention, but also Bal’am himself does not hear! Their behavior is like that of a child, and their behavior refutes any claim that, if they had been given a better prophet, then they would have acted differently. There is, moreover, a deeper comprehension concerning their mistaken claim that, if they had been given better prophets, they would have behaved ethically. These nations thought that knowing the truth is sufficient, that the truth does not require dedicated, practical application. Their claim is imbedded in the mistaken idea that, if they had only known the truth, then they would have behaved differently. They knew the truth, but they did not act upon it; they did not allow the truth to change them. This deep lesson brings to mind a famous statement of the Gaon of Vilna about the meeting of Shimon Hatzadik with Alexander and Aristotle. The Gaon said that Shimon Hatzadik could have brought down the sun and moon and all the hosts of heaven and made them stand upon a table in front of Aristotle. However, it would not have influenced that rasha one iota to change his ways. There is no easy formula or instantaneous pill to make a person change his ways. It can only be done with hard, continuous work. And if a person falls, then he has to get up again. These are the reasons Chazal said that G-d created the evil inclination, and He created an antidote for it - the Torah. To comprehend the Torah is like comprehending a vast, living, complicated being. It is not easily “swallowable” bytes of clear-cut, closed knowledge. A person must work and struggle with it, over a long period of time, in order to get a hold upon it. Therefore, only the Torah is a match and an antidote to the evil inclination. The bill, sponsored by the country’s Animal Rights Party, stipulates that livestock must be stunned before slaughter. In Jewish law, meat must by prepare through ritual slaughter before it can be declared kosher. Likewise, Islam requires similar procedures for halal meat but does not prohibit slaughter after stunning. A possible loophole in the new law – which has yet to pass the upper house of the parliament -- allows religious groups to continue the practice of ritual slaughter, if they can prove it is no more painful than stunning. According to greater Netherlands Chief Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs, who was interviewed by INN several months ago on anti-Semitism in Holland, many Jews have called to ask what the future holds, given the fact that such a law could pass. “Old people are scared, and young people who are just married are calling me to ask if they should stay here. Today it is the shechita and tomorrow, what? Circumcision? People are afraid,” Jacobs told the Reuters news agency. “This is very painful,” Jacobs noted. “Those who survived the [second world] war remember the very first law made by the Germans in Holland was the banning of shechita, or the Jewish way of slaughtering animals.” Although regulations in the European Union require stunning of animals prior to slaughter, exceptions are allowed for ritual slaughter. According to the European Court of Human Rights, production and purchase of ritually slaughtered meat is a religious right. Nevertheless, a number of Scandinavian and other European countries have banned ritual slaughter, including Sweden, Norway, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Activists in Switzerland are also working to secure a ban on the import of halal and kosher meat -- a fallback plan that both Jews and Muslims might be forced to rely upon, should the Dutch ban pass in the upper house of parliament as well. Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad admitted Tuesday that United Nations recognition of a PA state would basically change nothing. Such recognition, he said, would not change the fact of Israeli “occupation,” he said in an interview this week with the Associated Press, making such a victory symbolic and nothing more. “It is not going to be a dramatic result,” Fayyad said. Little will actually change, even if the PA is recognized in the U.N. General Assembly as a new Arab country, he explained. “Unless Israel is part of that consensus, it won’t – because to me, it is about ending Israeli occupation.” Fayyad has recently been striving to lower expectations on the Palestinian Authority street in anticipation of the September 20 vote. He and others are becoming increasingly concerned with what may follow the vote. It is unlikely the U.N. Security Council will approve membership of the PA as a new Arab country in the international body. If, as expected, the U.S. vetoes such a move, the PA would hope to persuade America to reverse its position following recognition by the U.N. General Assembly, pointing out the powerful numbers and the broad range of international support for its cause. Years of incitement against Israel, and repeated exhortations and promises by PA leaders, have built up the expectations of grassroots Arabs on the PA street. Such a disappointment may result in the kind of frustration that could lead to a massive ‘Arab Spring’-type revolt or ignite a region-wide war. Fayyad the Man to Blame Ironically, it was Fayyad himself who first called for creation of a PA state in a speech delivered two years ago at the Al Quds University in Jerusalem. By August 2009, he had already set into motion plans for the infrastructure and economy for the new country he envisioned in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem. The plans called for an international airport in the Jordan Valley, foreign investors and stronger armed forces. Now, two years later, two out of the three points have been accomplished with generous support from the United States and the European Union. By December 2010, Fayyad again confirmed to reporters that he remained fixed on the August 2011 dealing for declaring the PA as an independent sovereign entity if no final status agreement with Israel had been reached. 15911 Biscayne Blvd. North Miami Beach, FL 33160 Ph: 305.947.6002 Fx: 305.947.6007 View our menus at: www.sushihousenmb.com or E-mail us: sushihousenmb@yahoo.com Bring this ad on: Wednesdays and get FREE Sake. ו' תמוז התשע"א 7/8/2011 7 B&W - 7 There are many costs associated with smoking, some are obvious such as the cost of the individual packs or cartons of cigarettes, other costs are hidden, but can still place a drain on your bank account. The average price of a pack of cigarettes is $4.49. If you smoke just one pack a day, that would cost you $134.70 a month and $1616.40 for an entire year. I f you smoke more then one pack a day, then obviously your costs will be higher. Besides the costs of cigarettes, individuals that smoke have to pay for travel to and from purchasing their cigarettes. With the high costs of gas, this can add up pretty quickly. Smokers must also pay for smoking accessories, such as matches or lighters. Impulse purchases also cost smokers money, although this isn’t widely recognized or reported. Often times, when smokers go and buy cigarettes, they pick up snacks and drinks while at the store. Five dollars here and there can add up to a lot of money over time. The treatment of smoke related illness can also make smoking more expensive. Individuals that smoke have higher incidences of cancer, asthma and emphysema. The cost of medications, trips to the doctor’s office and to the hospital can quickly become prohibitive. Quitting smoking, while extremely beneficial to your health, can also save you a ton of money. The high taxes tacked on to cigarettes make them quite expensive. This “sin” tax shows no signs of slowing down. It is an easy way for local governments to raise money, because the majority of people have no problem penalizing smokers. Besides the actual costs of cigarettes themselves, impulse purchases and the costs associated with smoking related ailments, makes smoking very expensive. Kicking this harmful habit, allows you to get healthier and to save the money that you would normally use for smoking for a better life and future. There are some very effective methods to help you stop smoking including using vaporizer. However, the first and the most important step is for you to be sick and tired enough of smoking that you are ready to do whatever it takes to quit. Money can be a good motivator. Once you have decided to quit, consider nicotine patches, zyban or joining a support group. Your doctor can also be a very good resource to helping you get on the path to living smoke free. Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be – a roommate, a neighbor, a professor, a friend, a lover, or even a complete stranger – but when you lock eyes with them, you know at that very moment they will affect your life in some profound way. Sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but in reflection you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower, or heart. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved straight flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless. The people you meet who affect your life, and the success and downfalls you experience, help to create who you are and who you become. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are sometimes the most important ones. If someone loves you, give love back to them in whatever way you can, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things. If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart. Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and listen to what they have to say. Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set your sights high. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, it will be hard for others to believe in you. You can make anything you wish of your life. Create your own life and then go out and live it with absolutely no regrets. And if you love someone tell them, for you never know what tomorrow may have in store. Learn a lesson in life each day that you live! Today is the tomorrow you were worried about yesterday. Think About it? Was it worth it? ו' תמוז התשע"א 7/8/2011 8 B&W - 8 BRITAIN’S LONG, SAD JOURNEY OF JEW HATRED By: David Lev Slogans like “Zionism is Nazism” and “Israelis are fascists” are most likely to be shouted by far-left radicals, of the type that perform the “weekly hajj” to throw stones and bricks at IDF soldiers at Bil’in. But they didn’t invent those slogans – and neither did anyone else on the left, says Professor Robert Wistrich of the Hebrew University. “Those slogans – and that world view – was the stock in trade of the British elites, who spread stories about Zionism being totalitarian and Nazi during the 1930s and 40s.” It’s just one aspect of a long and rich history of Jewhatred in Britain, says Wistrich, considered one of the world’s leading experts on anti-Semitism. Britain, he says, has historically been one of the most anti-Semitic countries in Western Europe; not quite Germany, but far worse than France, for example. “Certainly today Britain is at the forefront of anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism,” he says. “For example, it’s where the BDS (Boycott, Divest and Sanction) movement against Israel was first developed, and has been the most successful.” The headlines – British labor unions and universities banning Israeli products and academics, the British government’s obsession with arresting IDF officers for “war crimes,” - are well known to Israelis. Britain is also the world’s fountain of disinformation and lies about Israel and Jews, says Wistrich, with the British media - “the quality press, like the Independent and Guardian, the BBC and other media outlets, the churches, etc. - spreading the worst caricatures and falsehoods about Israelis, how they treat Arabs, and the like.” Wistrich, himself born in England – “this gives me greater insight into the nuances and meanings of press reports and attitudes,” he says – presented this history at a recent symposium hosted by Hebrew University’s Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism (SICSA), titled “From Blood Libel to Boycott: The Changing Face of British anti-Semitism,” an historic evaluation of British anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism over the years. And there is indeed much history to evaluate. Britain is not usually thought of as anti-Semitic country; it hasn’t had a history of pogroms, for example. Although Jews were forbidden from living in the country for hundreds of years, it’s very striking that Britain has had such an extensive history of anti-Semitism. Britain was where the blood libel – which persisted in Europe for centuries and has had a revival in the Muslim world today (there was even one in upstate New York in 1928) was invented, Wistrich says. “William of Norwich was allegedly crucified by the Jews, to duplicate the crucifixion of Jesus. This was the first time in European history that such a charge was made, and it quickly spread throughout England, and then to France.” Britain was also responsible for the first expulsion of Jews, in 1290, another “innovation” that was later copied by other European countries. And although Jews were not allowed to return for at least 350 years, British literature – from Chaucer to Shakespeare, who may never have met a Jew – was rife with Jew-hatred. “Most people see Britain as the birthplace of tolerance and democracy, which it may have been – but not for the Jews,” Wistrich says. In modern times, British attempts to prevent the establishment of the State of Israel are well known. Although the British government issued the Balfour Declaration in 1917, the “Arabists” in the Foreign Office – who were the vast majority and set British foreign policy – very quickly worked to drop their obligations of setting up a Jewish state in mandatory Palestine. They had no problem lopping off three quarters of the Mandate to establish the Arab mandatory state, Transjordan. And as the Nazis closed in on European Jewry, British officials went out of their way to prevent Jews from escaping to the one place where they had a chance of survival – the Jewish communities of the Land of Israel. The attitude of the British elites, both in the Land of Israel and in London, is striking. “There are many communications between Colonial Office officials in London and Mandatory officials in Palestine discussing the evils of Zionism and Zionists,” says Wistrich. “The Zionists were accused of being Nazi-like, mistreating Arabs and considering themselves to be the ‘master race’ of Palestine; the youth movements were compared to Nazi Youth; and the Jews were seen to be at the heart of a cabal that sought to take over the world.” Among the worst offenders was John Bagot Glubb, known as Pasha Glubb, who took command of Jordan’s Arab Legion during Israel’s War of Independence. Glubb’s hatred for Israel and Jews extended to his advocacy of the theory that modern Jewry is descended from the Khazars – another “gem” that was also embraced by British elites, and eventually the Arabs, as well. Many Israelis attribute Britain’s anti-Israel stances today to the large number of Muslims in the country – and the fear among ordinary Britons of what could happen to them if they don’t toe the “Muslim line.” But that influence is a bit overblown, Wistrich says. “Most demographers believe that there are between 2.5 million and 3 million Muslims in Britain – a substantial number, but less than the 6 million in France, whose official institutions and elites are far less hostile to Jews and Israel.” No, anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism is something the British themselves have to take responsibility for. “Since 1945 – and especially since 1967 – Israel can do no right in the eyes of England,” Wistrich says. “Anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism may not be official British government policy anymore, but among the elites and those with the most influence in society, it’s all too common.”

ו' תמוז התשע"א 7/8/2011 9 B&W - 9 “NEVER AGAIN” - A PERSONAL REQUEST TO KEEP BAD MEMORIES ALIVE By: Cantor Moshe Fishelm By: Chana Ya’ar By: The Embassy Of Israel Washington - Leaders of the United States Congress gathered to pay tribute to Shuvu Return, an Israeli school network that provides a stellar education to Jewish children who emigrate from Russia to Israel. The event featured the most powerful members of the current Congress including both House Whips, Democrat Steny Hoyer and Republican Kevin McCarthy, Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair Darrell Issa, House Homeland Security Committee Chair Peter King, House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Dutch Ruppersberger, House Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sandy Levin, as well as Representatives Jerrold Nadler, Eliot Engel, Ted Deutch, Marcia Fudge, and Nan Hayworth of New York State who graciously hosted the luncheon. The keynote address was delivered by the Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Michael Oren. The event paid tribute to the memory of Congressman Charles Vanik, whose commitment to the cause of Soviet Jewry, allowed for millions of Russian Jews to make Israel their home. In 1974, Charles Vanik sponsored the Jackson-Vanik Act in the House of Representatives which helped refugees, particularly minorities and Jews, to immigrate from the Soviet Bloc to Israel. The Jackson-Vanik amendment was credited with pressuring the Soviet leadership with allowing immigration to Israel. The late Congressman’s wife Betty Vanik, and daughter Phyllis Vanik, attended the luncheon. Shuvu Chairman Abe Biderman, said “By Shuvu now educating tens of thousands of children in the spirit of our forefathers, this brings full circle the great humanitarian leadership of the late Congressman Vanik and for that the Jewish people will be eternally grateful”. According to Ezra Friedlander, CEO of the Friedlander Group which coordinated the event, “this event was an extraordinary opportunity for members of Congress to pay homage to one of the architects of the Jackson-Vanik Amendment, an act of Congress that literally brought the Soviet Union to its knees, a theme that was echoed throughout the program, by Congressional leaders who expressed their deep admiration to the late Congressman and felt privileged to do so in the presence of Mrs. Vanik and her daughter Phyllis.” “I want to congratulate Shuvu for all their hard work in educating thousands of children who otherwise would not have a Jewish education—kudos to the congress for recognizing this and what a kiddush Hashem to remember the chesed of charles Vanik during the Cold War” said Friedlander. Dear Friend, The Dachau Death Camp Museum in Germany, a place where 65 years ago, evil ruled and where ordinary people killed nearly one million Jews died for no other reason but for being JEWISH.. The Holocaust was history’s single biggest act of genocide. It is personal for me, as from 1935-1945, hundreds of people from my family were killed in Germany, Poland and Hungary by Nazi murders and their local collaborators. Others survived to tell the story which has been etched in my mind. All told, by the time World War II ended, some 1.5 million Jewish children and 4.5 million Jewish adults were murdered JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE JEWISH. In the process of killing all these people, they were dehumanized, dispossess of their property and led to horrific deaths, often times entire families died together. “NEVER AGAIN” is more than a slogan for me. It is also a battle cry that I carried in my heart during my military service (77-80) when ever I crossed the boarder with my special forces unit on a mission to prevent, or avenge, the death of Israeli citizens. From 1942-1945, nearly a million people were murdered in the Dachau death camp which is situated in a suburb of Munich. Most people in the city never knew about what took place in the camp, except for smoke and white ash that kept raining on the nearby town 24/7. The smoke and ashes came from the camp crematorium that burned mostly Jewish victims who prior to being reduced to ashes, were gassed to death en mass. Entire families perished in this most cruel manner. Needless to say, they never had a proper ritual burial. As those who had lived through the ten darkest years of modern history die away (my German born father was born in 1930 and passed away last year) its seems that this tragic event fades away from the collective memory.. The Holocaust is being trivialized and Holocaust deniers have taken center stage. It is the duty of enlighten men and women to ensure that this tragic event is remembered, so that it does not happen EVER AGAIN. May God bless the souls of those who died in the Holocaust. May God bless members, and the decedents, of the U.S. 7th Infantry that liberated the Dachau death camp 65 years ago. May the world FINALLY stand up to persecution of Jews in its modern form of AntiZionism and Anti-Israeli policies. CONGRESSIONAL LEADERSHIP HONORS ‘SHUVU’

Republican Senator John McCain, former U.S. spokesman at the United Nations Richard Grenell, and a senior Congresswoman have called on President Obama to recall Ford. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the Republican head of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, charged that Syrian President Bashar Assad is using him “for propaganda purposes.” Ford recently joined a government tour of northern Syria. However, the U.S. State Department has kept up a continuous line of insisting that the United States is better off trying to influence Assad by keeping an ambassador in the country. The Obama administration has reversed the Bush administration’s recalling the ambassador several years ago from Syria, officially described as a country that support terror. “Our review remains that Ambassador Ford is doing useful work in Damascus and in Syria, he continues to meet with a broad cross-section of Syrian opposition,” U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters at a daily briefing. “We did think that his trip up north, even though it was organized by the Syrian government, allowed him to convey our messages.” She claimed that one success of keeping Ford in Damascus was this week’s meeting of nearly 200 Syrian protest leaders in Damascus, without government intervention or arrests. Grenell, writing in the Huffington Post, described the tour of northern Syria a trick by the Assad regime “to show the devastation caused by what government officials described as ‘foreign outlaws’ and ‘radical Islamists.’” He declared that Ford “has since failed to respond or react” to the allegations on the tour and added, “Ford’s silence dramatically contrasts with his tough talk during his confirmation hearing in March 2010 when he told Senators, ‘Unfiltered straight talk with the Syrian government will be my mission priority.’ Grenell said that President Obama and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “cling to the idea that Assad may still yet be a reformer [while] the Obama team misses the opportunity to topple the Syrian dictator and blunt Iran’s influence in the region…. “With foreign journalists not allowed inside Syria, you might think the U.S. Embassy staff would be working overtime to tell the world and specifically the U.S. taxpayer just what is happening inside Assad’s world. Shouldn’t Ford be calling attention to and showing the violence coming from Assad’s government?” After Assad’s televised speech last week in which he continued to call protesters ‘armed gangs” and said Syrians are behind him, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said that the Syrian president “has reached the point of no return” and that “there is no reason to take him seriously today.” The Obama administration’s insistence to try to “engage” Assad is a measure of its “fantasy, Tony Badran, a research fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, wrote in Now Lebanon. The White House has urged Assad to “end the use of violence now and promptly enact meaningful reforms that respect the democratic aspirations of the Syrian people, but Badran said, “The Obama administration’s dogged pursuit of ‘behavior change’ on the part of Assad is not merely restricted to rhetoric. ו' תמוז התשע"א 7/8/2011 11 B&W - 11 COLONIC IRRIGATION AND WEIGHT LOSS Health By: Colon Cleansing & Constipation Resource Center Colonic irrigation and weight loss have a very clear and definite connection. At the same time, the connection is often misunderstood. It is important for you to understand this relationship so you are not disappointed in the results of your irrigation. BENEFITS OF COLONIC IRRIGATION Colonic irrigation is just one of many methods you can use to cleanse your colon. With irrigation, your bowels are cleansed by a closed tubular system forcing liquid into your colon and then drawing it back out. As the liquid is removed, the built up mucus, sludge, and other waste material in your colon is removed as well. Colonic irrigation is not the same as an enema, because an enema does not utilize a closed system. Rather than drawing the waste and liquid back out, an enema involves holding the liquid in your colon for a few moments before you release it in the toilet. Furthermore, irrigation provides a more effective washing force than the little squirt-bottle effect of an enema. Therefore, take advantage of the benefits of colonic irrigation and weight loss is sure to be your reward. Another method for cleansing the colon is to use herbal colon cleansing supplements. With the best herbal supplements, the waste lining your colon walls is liquefied, which makes it easier to be removed from your body. Regardless of the type of colonic cleansing process you use, noticeable weight loss can follow. Herbal supplements and colonic irrigation, however, are more likely to result in weight loss because these methods cleanse the entire colon while the enema only cleanses the bottom portion of the colon. COLON CLEANSING BENEFITS OVERALL Cleansing your colon is very beneficial and you are likely to notice an improvement in your health almost immediately. This is because the colon accumulates mucus, sludge, and toxic waste in its lining in response to the bad foods you eat. This buildup is your colon’s natural way of protecting itself from the impurities in the foods, such as the fats and artificial additives. Unfortunately, the mucus becomes excessive and slows down the digestive process. Therefore, you may begin to experience constipation. Even if the ‘waste’ in your colon is not enough to cause constipation, it can contribute to a number of other illnesses. This is because the waste adheres to the colon’s lining and results in a release of toxins back into your bloodstream. This can cause you to experience chronic fatigue, allergies, or even skeletal and muscle pain. EXPLORING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN COLONIC IRRIGATION AND WEIGHT LOSS The connection may not be quite as exciting as you think. While it is true you may lose weight, the weight won’t actually consist of fat tissue. Rather, the weight you lose is from eradicating the mucus and sludge from your colon walls. Some people have reported losing as much as 20 pounds after cleansing their colons! Of course, weight loss should not be your primary goal when cleansing your colon. In addition, a colon cleansing should not be a conscious part of your weight loss plan. If you are overweight, the only way to lose weight effectively is to eat healthy, exercise regularly, or you can try a weightloss supplement to help you in the process. When you begin to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly, a pleasant side effect will be a healthier colon as well as a healthier body in general. This is not to say that you shouldn’t be thrilled about the positive relationship between colonic irrigation and weight loss. While you most likely won’t notice a change in your outward appearance when it comes to your weight, you will notice a difference in the way you feel. Most people report simply feeling “lighter” after a successful colon cleansing treatment, even those that don’t lose a significant amount of weight. By losing weight through maintaining a healthful diet and exercising, and then cleansing your colon to help get rid of toxic waste, you will begin to feel more energetic and you will put less strain on your body by reducing unneeded baggage. INCREASING EFFECTIVENESS OF COLONIC IRRIGATION To increase the effectiveness of your colon cleansing and improve your likelihood of losing weight, you should make a few simple dietary changes. The most important and beneficial change you can make, is to add more fiber to your diet. Fruit and vegetables are filled with fiber, as are breads and cereals made from whole grains. Be sure to include plenty of high-fiber foods in your diet and you will notice your colon starting to work more efficiently. In addition, these foods tend to be healthier in general and can very easily help you lose weight (including fat) and then keep it off!

ו' תמוז התשע"א 7/8/2011 12 B&W - 12 JEWISH DIVORCE 101 The basic procedure of the Jewish divorce -- the mutual agreement, the document, the ceremony, and the aftermath When a man takes a wife and is intimate with her, and it happens that she does not find favor in his eyes because he discovers in her an unseemly matter, and he writes for her a document of severance, gives it into her hand, and sends her away from his house. She leaves his house and goes and marries another man -- Deuteronomy 24:1-2. THE “GET” According to biblical law, a married couple is released from the bonds of matrimony only through the transmission of a bill of divorce from the husband to the wife. This document, commonly known by its Aramaic name, “get,” serves not only as a proof of the dissolution of the marriage in the event that one or both wish to remarry, it actually effects the divorce. G-d, who prescribed a formula for the fusion of souls, also gave instructions how two souls can be severed. While Jewish law requires one to follow the law of the land, and thus necessitates a civil divorce as well, a civil divorce cannot serve as a substitute for a halachic (conforming to the strictures of Jewish law) get. Without a get, no matter how long the couple is separated, and no matter how many civil documents they may have in their file cabinet, in the eyes of Jewish law the couple is still 100% married. Marriage is not merely an agreement between two individuals which can be dissolved at will, it is a union of souls. The same G-d who prescribed a formula for the fusion of souls -- the formula followed beneath the wedding canopy -- also gave detailed instructions how these two souls can revert to a state of independence. The Document The get is a dated and witnessed document wherein the husband expresses his unqualified intention to divorce his wife and sever all ties with her. Click here for the text of the get document. The get is written by an expert scribe acting as the husband’s agent. Each get is individually tailored to the particular divorcing couple. One of the most important rules governing the writing of the get is the requirement that it be written specifically for the husband and wife who will be using it. This precludes the use of form documents. Although technically the get can be written in any language -- provided it contains the key words and phrases mandated by Jewish law -- the universally accepted Jewish custom is to write it in Aramaic. It is also an age-old tradition for the get to be written in twelve lines (the numerical value of the Hebrew word “get”). The witnesses sign beneath the twelfth line. THE TRANSMISSION The entire get procedure is performed in front of a b e t h din (rabbini- c a l c o u r t consisting of three rabbis). Though technically only the presence of the husband, wife, and two witnesses is required to effect the divorce, practically, the get process is so complex that it cannot be done correctly unless done in the presence of experts in the field. In fact, rabbinic law automatically invalidates any get which was not written and transmitted in front of experts. After the document is written by the scribe, the husband hands it to his wife in the presence of two kosher witnesses. At this point the marriage has been dissolved and the beth din will give both parties a certificate confirming their new marital status. Rabbinic law automatically invalidates any get which was not transmitted in front of professionalsOn occasion, circumstances prevent the husband and wife from appearing together in a beth din. In such an instance, the husband can appoint an emissary to act in his stead and bring the bill of divorce to his wife. Or, alterna- tively, the w i f e c a n appoint an agent to accept the get on her behalf. The appointment of such an agent is a halachically complex procedure in of itself, and must also be done in the presence of a beth din. A Mutual Agreement A key requirement in the get process is the complete acquiescence of both parties to the proceedings. “And it happens that she does not find favor in his eyes” teaches us that the document is only valid if it stems from the husband’s desire to divorce his wife. Originally the wife’s consent wasn’t required in order for her husband to divorce her. This changed approximately 1000 years ago when the noted German scholar, Rabbi Gershom “the Light of the Diaspora,” prohibited a man from divorcing his wife without her approval. Consent is only considered to be such when both husband and wife are sane and sober minded at the time of the divorce. THE AFTERMATH Once the couple is divorced, they are encouraged to maintain minimal contact if any. The sages were concerned that the previous intimacy and comfort level that they shared with each other can lead them to behavior ina p p r o p r i a t e for an unmarried couple. In fact, Jewish law places certain restrictions on the ex-couple from residing together in the same housing complex. That said, the couple is not precluded from remarrying each other; in fact, it is considered to be a special mitzvah to remarry a divorced spouse. RELATIONSHIP By: Chabad
